These times are still mostly quiet for the Army of the Cumberland. There is some fear of a Confederate cavalry invasion of Kentucky, but reliable reports are sparse.
The main news of this time comes from Mississippi, where Grant's army has captured Jackson, and defeated a Confederate army under General Pemberton at Champion's Hill. Pemberton's army is forced back toward Vicksburg, and is in danger of being trapped in the city.
