April 14, 1943 - Wednesday - 80 years ago today

Status - John Skinner - USS Daly: 

USS Daly (DD-519)

April 11th: Remained in port.  4 sailors absent over leave from the 9th.  Fueling done in afternoon.

April 12th: Remained in port.  A number of officers and sailors reported aboard for temporary duty for training and observation.

April 13th:  Remained in port.  No notable activity.

April 14th: Remained in port.  More fuel taken onboard in the afternoon.

In New Guinea, the Japanese execute several air attacks on New Guinea, including a large attack on Port Moresby.  

Having lost the Battle of Stalingrad, the German command is planning an attack on Kursk. about 300 miles SSE of Moscow.  The operation would be approved by Hitler on April 15th.

Fighting continued in Tunisia as the Allies continued with their plan to push the Axis forces out of North Africa.  This was intended to lead to an invasion of Italy.
